Our adoption fees are $70 for cats and $75 for dogs, except during Yappy Hour (all day Thursday and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday), when all adoption fees are $50. All dogs adopted from MAS are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper, parvo, and bordatella, dewormed for hookworms and roundworms, and tested for heartworm disease. Adopters also receive a collar, leash, and customized ID tag. All cats adopted from MAS are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, and dewormed for hookworms and roundworms. Adopters also receive a collar and customized ID tag. For an additional $15, you can opt to have a Feline Leukemia/Feline Infectious Virus (FeLV/FIV) test done.

You can take a look at our ready-to-adopt dogs, cats, and other pets online before you come to the facility if you’d like. Our available pets change daily, so please visit our website often when you’re looking for the right pet!

If you visit us, we invite you to walk through our dog rooms A-F and our cat rooms A-C to view all currently adoptable pets. If you need more information about a certain pet or advice about what type of pet would be a good fit, you can ask any of our staff or volunteers for assistance. We have several visiting rooms and outdoor spaces where you can spend time with dogs and cats you’re interested in to see who you connect with. You can also talk to our staff about bringing your pet(s) here to meet the MAS pets to ensure everyone gets along.

Once you’ve reached a decision on a pet to adopt, a staff member or volunteer will retrieve the kennel card and proceed with you to the reception area where you can fill out the adoption contract. There may be a short consultation session. Once the contract is completely filled out, you’ll give it to the adoption clerk to process your adoption.

All animals adopted from Memphis Animal Services must be spayed/neutered before they can go home. If the pet is already spayed or neutered, you can take them home that day! If they need surgery, the pet will stay here to be spayed or neutered. In some cases, the pet may be ready to go home the following day or the next day, but it depends completely on our adoption volume and clinic staffing. We ask that you give us the best phone number to contact you, and then make sure your voicemail is set up and able to receive messages so you’ll know ASAP when we call to let you know your pet is ready.

You may notice some pets as you walk through our dog and cat rooms who are not yet available for adoption because their review date hasn’t yet passed. This means that they came to our facility as a stray pet, and we are required by law to hold them for 72 hours before allowing them to be adopted. If you see a pet with a future review date, simply let the adoption clerks know you’d like to sign up for a chance to adopt the pet when he or she becomes available. If you are first on the list and can be at the center at the time we open for visiting on the release date for that animal you will be considered for that adoption.
