Kirk Lock began his career with the Memphis Fire Department on March 5, 1990.   He worked as a private on Engine 1 and Squad 2.  In August 1993, Chief Lock was promoted to driver where he was assigned to Truck 24 and Truck 6. In December 1998, Chief Lock was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Truck 10. 

In June 2002, Chief Lock was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to Battalions 2, 4 and 8.  He spent 4 years as the Battalion Chief of Special Operations.  Chief Lock is experienced in several different technical disciplines such as Hazardous Materials, Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Structural Collapse, Trench Rescue and Swift Water Rescue. He serves on Tennessee Task Force 1 since 2006.  He has been a Safety Officer for the team and currently serves as a Task Force leader.

In January 2014, Chief Lock was promoted to Division Chief of Training.  He oversaw the training of Fire suppression, EMS training and Special Operations.  During this period over 200 recruits were put through the Academy as well as EMT’s and Paramedics.  Many technical rescue classes were held during this period as well.  Chief Lock holds several Firefighting certifications including Fire Fighter 3, Fire Officer 1 and 2, Instructor 1 and 2 and Safety Officer.  He has served as SME and evaluator for several promotions and different departments.

In January 2016, Chief Lock was promoted to Deputy Chief of Operations where his responsibilities include Fire Suppression, Special Operations, Tennessee Task Force 1 and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting.  He holds a Master Degree of Business from Bethel University, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Memphis and an Associate Degree from Southwest Technical College. Chief Lock holds the designation of “Chief Fire Officer”.  He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
