Weights & Measures and MVIB
The Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau and Weights and Measures have a $2.6 million operating budget and forty-six employees.

Vehicle Inspection No Longer Required To Renew Vehicle Tag:

Citizens of Memphis are no longer required to have vehicles inspected to register or renew vehicle tags.  Citizens of Memphis may go directly to the Shelby County Clerk’s Office to renew.

Please Note:  MVIB is not currently handling vehicle inspections. Thank you.

Weights and Measures Bureau 

The Weights and Measures Bureau is responsible for the registration and certification of commercial devices and the verification of procedures utilized by businesses for commerce. Counter scales, platform scales, fuel dispensers, and taxi meters are registered annually and certified for accuracy. This bureau is governed by the City Code of Ordinance, State of Tennessee Code Annotated, National Conference on Weights and Measures, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
