As the Director of Human Resources, I plan, direct, and oversee the activities and operations of the division and its functional areas, which include HR Administration and Finance, Compensation and Data Management, Health, Wellness and Benefits, EEO/Labor Relations, Recruitment and Selection, Talent Development and Workplace Safety and Compliance. I ensure compliance with all personnel related local Ordinances and State and Federal employment laws. I coordinate assigned activities with other city divisions and outside agencies and provide responsible leadership and counsel to the Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, Division Directors and Memphis City Council members on personnel matters.
It is my goal to deliver best-in-class Human Resources services to all internal and external customers by working collaboratively, proactively and responsively.
Prior to joining the City of Memphis as Human Resources Director in May 2010, I held various human resources leadership roles in retail and the media.
I am a native Memphian and a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. I earned a Bachelor’s in Science English from Tennessee State University in Nashville and a Master’s of Business Administration from Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
I am an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), with the designation as a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). I am completing a three-year term December 2012 as a member of SHRM’s Special Expertise Panel on Labor Relations.
In the Community, I am a member of the Union University Business School Advisory Board, the Memphis SHRM Executive Roundtable, a member of the Grizzlies Team Up Mentoring Program and a member of New Direction Christian Church.
I am honored to serve this great city and its citizens as the Director of Human Resources.
