What to do if you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted:
  1. First, get to a safe place, far away form the perpetrator.
  2. Call 9-1-1 or our hotline at 901-272-2020.
  3. If physically injured, report to the hospital immediately.
  4. Don't bathe or change clothing.
  5. Don't brush your teeth.
  6. If you have to urinate, keep the urine in a container to give to a MSARC forensic nurse before an examination.
  7. If you are assaulted orally, don't eat or drink until seen by a MSARC forensic nurse.
  8. If you don't want to report, you can still receive services at the center from 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday.

Reporting Sexual Assault Immediately:
  • Allows for the collection of forensic evidence crucial in the prosecution of the assailant.
  • Assures the victim immediate safety and medical services
  • Minimizes emotional and physical trauma.
  • Allows the police to pursue the assailant more effectively, increasing the likelihood of apprehension.

  • Tennessee Department of Child Services (DCS) child abuse hotline is 1-877-237-0004.
  • Mississippi Department of Child Services (DCS) child abuse hotline is 1-800-222-8000.
  • Arkansas Department of Child Services (DCS) child abuse hotline is 1-800-482-5964.
