Adopt a Cat

Thank you for your interest in saving a life by adopting a cat! As the only open-intake shelter in Memphis, we bring in 30-50 new pets most days, and we need YOUR help to save them! If you don’t see a cat you’re interested in today, check back tomorrow!

We invite you to browse through our online listings of adoptable cats any time of the day or night, or come see us at 2350 Appling City Cove any time during our adoption hours.

Click the button below to browse through all the online listings of all of our cats.

NOTE: Memphis Animal Services is currently transitioning our shelter database, and we will temporarily have two different places where our pets are listed: one page for pets who came in before July 20, 2020, and one page for pets who came in on or after July 20, 2020. Please be sure to visit BOTH pages to see every adoptable pet in our care.

Some cats are already available for adoption, and some cats are being held to see if their owner reclaims them. For pets who come in stray, we are legally required to hold them for three days to give a potential owner a chance to reclaim. For cats who have not yet completed their stray hold, you will see a date that they become available for adoption if they’re not reclaimed by their owner. NEW! You can pre-adopt cats who are still on their stray hold. See below for details.

For cats who are available for adoption now, just come to the shelter ASAP to meet them and hopefully adopt! MAS is open for adoptions 7 days a week from 12-4 p.m., plus we stay open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You’ll need your driver’s license as well as the adoption fee in the form of cash or card (we don’t accept checks).

For cats who are not yet available for adoption, you can pre-adopt them. NEW!  Pre-adoptions must be done in person at the shelter and will be canceled if an owner reclaims or anything else occurs preventing the pet from being adopted. Pre-adoption fees are not refundable in the event an adoption isn’t completed, but will remain as a credit on your account toward another adoption.

Pets on the urgent list

Adult dogs (over 5 months) over 30 lbs
Adult cats (over 5 months)

Small dogs 30 lbs & under
Puppies under 5 months
Kittens under 5 monthsCat adoption includes:

• Spay/neuter

• Deworming treatment for hookworms and roundworms

All animals adopted from Memphis Animal Services must be spayed/neutered before they can go home. If the pet is already spayed or neutered, you can take them home that day! If they need surgery, the pet will stay here to be spayed or neutered. In some cases, the pet may be ready to go home the following day or the next day, but it depends completely on our adoption volume and clinic staffing. We ask that you give us the best phone number to contact you, and then make sure your voicemail is set up and able to receive messages so you’ll know ASAP when we call to let you know your pet is ready.

If you visit us, we invite you to walk through our cat rooms to view all currently adoptable cats. If you need more information about a certain cat or advice about what type of cat would be a good fit, you can ask any of our staff or volunteers for assistance. We invite you to spend time with cats you’re interested in to see who you connect with.

Once you’ve reached a decision on a pet to adopt, a staff member or volunteer will retrieve the kennel card and proceed with you to the reception area where you can fill out the adoption contract. There may be a short consultation session. Once the contract is completely filled out, you’ll give it to the adoption clerk to process your adoption.
