Gerre Currie

Gerre currently serves as the representative of the Memphis City Council, District 6.  She also serves as Chair of the Audit Committee, Parks & Environment Committee, Public Services, Youth Initiatives, Libraries & Neighborhoods Committee, and as Vice Chair of the Public Works, Transportation & General Services Committee.  She serves as a liaison on the Aging Commission, Minority Business Development and Oversight Commission (MBDOC) and Pension Investments.

Councilman Gerre F. Currie currently serves as Vice President and Community Development Officer at Financial Federal Bank.  Her responsibilities include the development and implementation of mortgage lending products that address home owner expansion and retention in the community.  She works with non-profits and community development corporations in creating strategies that promote safe neighborhoods and the continuance of future generational wealth for families.  Additionally, she serves as Secretary of the newly formed Memphis Community Reinvestment Act Association which was created in partnership with other local banks and the Federal Reserve Bank of Memphis to identify needs specific to Low to Moderate individuals and geographies and actively promote efforts to meet those needs.

In addition to her work in partnering with the Memphis CRA Association, she is an active member of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors and the Women’s Council of Realtors.  She is also a staunch supporter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. She serves on the board of NHO (Neighborhood Housing Organization) under the leadership of Howard Eddings. Additionally, she is a member of the Memphis chapter of the West TN Affordable Housing Coalition.  She also serves on the Southern College of Optometry Community Advisory Committee which works to provide vision screening and glasses to the public.  

Councilman Currie is a Memphis native that attended Messick High School and Southwest Community College.  She is a graduate of the Barrett School of Banking, (the former the Mid-South School of Banking).  She has spent her career in the financial arena in helping clients re-establish credit, open accounts and obtain lending products.

She is married to Larry Currie, a retired Memphis Firefighter.  They have two sons, eight granddaughters, one grandson, a great grandson and granddaughter.  She attends Mt. Moriah East Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of Reverend Doctor Melvin Charles Smith where she serves on the Ushers Ministry.  She is also an alumnus of the 2013 Leadership Memphis Executive Class.
