Albert “Al” Lamar tapped to lead City’s new Solid Waste Division
Posted on 12/12/2018
Earlier this year, Mayor Jim Strickland announced a multi-pronged plan to improve solid waste collection service across Memphis. After a thorough interview process and pending City Council approval, Mayor Strickland is pleased to announce that Albert “Al” Lamar will head up the newly formed Solid Waste Division within the City of Memphis. This will be a vitally important role in keeping our city clean. With his nearly 18 years of strategic initiatives and operations experience, Mr. Lamar brings a wealth of experience to operate the division as efficiently as possible.

“During my time on the council, and especially as mayor, I’ve heard the frustrations with our solid waste process and scheduling,” Mayor Jim Strickland. “Mr. Lamar has spent the better part of his career managing large scale operations and will be a great fit for this new role. I’m excited to welcome him to the team.”

Mr. Lamar comes to the City of Memphis from Williams Sonoma where he served the last five years as their Senior Operations Manager. Prior to that, he served our country in the United States Army from the time he enlisted in 1983 until 2013. His final position was that of Joint Staff Doctrine Planner at The Pentagon.

“As I’ve said time and time again, we are committed at City government to improving core City services, which will enable even more momentum in our city, “said Mayor Strickland. “We must continue to lay this foundation of improved services, increased public safety, and policies that focus on growth in our core and our neighborhoods for us to realize the Memphis we all want.”
