Citizen University hosts summit in Memphis

CitizenFEST is a learning summit on how to exercise civic power, held in communities across the country CItizenFESTand hosted by Citizen University.

Doors opened at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday for CitizenFEST: Memphis, with a performance by Toya Dyson and welcome from Shamichael Hallman, director of Cossitt Library. The keynote speaker was Eric Liu, founder of Citizen University. 

Attendees participated in “Creating the Memphis We Need” panel discussion that included Linda Steele, founder of ArtUp, Andre Gibson, executive director of Bloom, and Brian Neal from the University of Memphis. Topics discussed included getting your voice heard, changing a rigged system, and connecting with people even when you disagree.

Citizen University included skill-building workshops, artistic performances, community conversations, and networking opportunities.
