Posted on 09/25/2019
(Daily Memphian) - Memphis International Airport held steady as the planet’s second busiest cargo airport in 2018, the industry group Airports Council International said.

Memphis posted a 3.1% increase in cargo, growing faster than No. 1 Hong Kong and No. 3 Shanghai, which both felt more direct impacts from slowing international trade.

The FedEx Express world hub accounted for more than 99% of cargo handled at the Memphis airport, where the company operates a combined 450 daily arrivals and departures.

The 4.47 million metric tons of cargo handled at Memphis represented about 3.6% of the global total of 122.7 million metric tons, according to council statistics.
