Memphis Convention Center modernization project
Front Street closure due to Convention Center renovation to start October 7
Posted on 09/27/2019

Beginning Monday, October 7 and lasting until May 1, 2020, all lanes of Front Street between Poplar Avenue and Jackson Avenue will be closed to traffic. The Convention Center’s parking garage will also be out of service beginning Thursday, October 17 until February 24, 2020.

Guests attending events in the Cannon Center or Memphis Convention Center are encouraged to park in the Mud Island Garage at Front Street and Poplar Avenue.

The Front Street closure is a necessary measure to ensure the safety of all road users during the renovation of the Memphis Convention Center. The result of work taking place during this time will produce a modern pass through on Front Street under the main convention hall, along with the addition of new meeting room space on the west side of the facility.

When the renovation is completed in the fall of 2020, the Memphis Convention Center will feature enhancements, including a new entrance, high-end finishes, breakout meeting rooms and floor-to-ceiling windows that treat visitors to natural light and stunning river views. This project is being funded through the hotel/motel tax and Tourism Development Zone (TDZ) funds.
