Solid waste contractor transition continues
Solid waste contractor transition continues
Posted on 07/30/2018
Our new solid waste collection contractor, Waste Pro, will take over garbage collection routes in the contracted areas — chiefly Cordova and Hickory Hill — starting today.

This comes after Mayor Jim Strickland’s decision this month to terminate our contract with Inland Waste. Mayor Strickland’s decision began a 30-day period in which Inland Waste remains contracted to provide services. Inland Waste will focus on recycling collections during the next couple of weeks before a more complete transition is made to Waste Pro for the remainder of the contract (through June 2019).

We’re asking for patience from citizens during the transition. We anticipate some glitches and know there have already been some, but please know the transition is taking place to achieve the long-term solution we all want — a better level of solid waste service in these areas.

This transition does not affect citizens who receive collection by City crews — about four-fifths of the City. This applies to the roughly one-fifth of Memphis serviced by the contractor.

The switch in contractors is part of a broader plan Mayor Strickland outlined this month to improve solid waste service citywide.
