Storm recovery services transitioning
Posted on 11/01/2019
After nearly two full weeks of operation, the shelter at Marian Hale Community Center will be closing Friday at 4 p.m. Overnight sheltering will no longer be available. The Red Cross will now transition to individual support services for those effected by the storm.

Individuals displaced from their home due to the extreme storm damage on October 21 can contact the Red Cross at 901-726-690 and/or Latino Memphis at 901-366-3882 for more information.

Over the last twelve days, the City, the Red Cross, Shelby County, Latino Memphis, MLGW, Shelby County Schools and many others have met daily to give status updates and provide solutions to the problems of the day. Issues ranged from providing short and long-term housing solutions, transportation, moving assistance, counseling sessions, meals, and simply just lending a helping hand to a person in need.

Going forward, the Red Cross and other organizations’ case management site will be stationed in the Cottonwood Apartments community room.

To date:

- 235 cases opened by the Red Cross
- 222 overnight stays overall at the shelter
- All residents who chose to do so were refunded their security deposit and October rent
