The Urban Fellows Program provides local college students and recent graduates the opportunity to intern within the City of Memphis Government. Interns receive challenging projects to complete in areas of the City that they are interested in. Urban Fellows work between 15 and 28 hours per week alongside their assigned mentor(s) and division. Three internship sessions are hosted a year, one in the spring, summer, and fall.

Adrian Pascotto

“I am currently a senior at Rhodes College studying Economics and Political Science, and I am a data analytics intern with the Parks & Neighborhoods Division and the Office of Performance Management within the City of Memphis. As an intern, I get to work with nearly every member of the Parks Department, striving to meet the needs of each service center in calculating and maintaining their fiscal goals. Within my first two weeks, I have collaborated with the departments of Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Business Operations, and even Planning and Development. I have been given access to all the key performance metrics in the city and will work with that data to conceptualize, design, and build a dashboard that will report the Parks & Neighborhoods Division’s metrics on a rolling basis for years to come.”

“I recently graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a major in Computer Science. I am a Metro Alarms Intern with the City of Memphis. My mentor is Department Administrator Thomas O’Malley and I have had the privilege to learn from the entire staff of the Metro Alarms Department. As an intern, I research false alarm prevention in our local region, update the website so that it can become more user-friendly for current permit holders, and I make materials that help people understand false alarms. As of today, I’ve been using Javascript/HTML to update dispute procedures on the website and continue to make things better for users. This fellowship has allowed me to meet some wonderful people and gain a greater appreciation for the City of Memphis.”
