Memphis first citywide fiber network
MEMPHIS, TN, April 30, 2024 – In a major step toward transforming Memphis into the nation’s
most digitally-equitable large city, Mayor Paul Young today broke ground on Memphis’ first
citywide fiber network.
Heights Line Grand Opening
Please join us on April 26 at 2:00 pm to celebrate the grand opening of The Heights Line, a unique linear park that was once a trolley line. The event will take place at 761 National Street. Through the Accelerate Memphis initiative, this neighborhood-led project has transformed a portion of National Street into a pedestrian-friendly public space in North Memphis, enhancing connectivity and promoting a vibrant community atmosphere.
Riverside Drive
Beginning on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at about 6:00 a.m. and continuing through Friday, May 24th, 2024 at about 5:00 a.m., Riverside Drive between Georgia Ave and Union Avenue will be totally closed to through traffic for RiverBeat Music Festival and the SmokeSlam Barbecue event.
Park Avenue Street Resurfacing
Beginning on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 9 a.m., City of Memphis crews will begin resurfacing work on Park Avenue between Lynnfield Road and Semmes Street. l
Traffic Alert: Manassas Street
Beginning Monday, April 15, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., Manassas Street between Poplar Avenue and Lane Avenue will be closed
Traffic Alert Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue
Traffic Alert: Beginning Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., the section of Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue between South Main Street and South Second Street will be closed entirely to traffic.

Memphis, TN. Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Memphis Mayor Paul Young, in partnership with the African American Mayors Association (AAMA), announced the launch of the Black Mayors’ Coalition on Crime (BMCC), an initiative to harness the collective power of black mayors across the nation to fight crime. The inaugural meeting will take place in Memphis on March 27-28 and will host 21 mayors and their proxies from Washington D.C., IN, TN, MO, MS, LA, AR, GA, AZ, CA, and NC.
Interstate Construction Halted for Easter Holiday Travel
Monday, March 25, 2024 | The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will suspend all interstate construction work on Easter weekend in anticipation of increased holiday travel.
